Meet Ted Michael, the Founder and a driving force behind Compass Recovery. Ted’s remarkable journey led him to become a Master Woodworker and a member of the USMC. With a decade of experience, his motivation to help those suffering is the bedrock of his passion for the industry. Ted’s role as CEO, CFO, and one of the founders showcases his unique leadership style. He excels at listening to his staff and empowering them to make decisions guided by their instincts. Ted’s ability to carefully consider all available options and meet the needs of clients sets him apart. Director of Operations and Founder

Meet Tim Michael, the heart and soul behind our program, serving as the Director of Operations and Founder. Armed with a Bachelors in Journalism from NAU, Tim has devoted 13 years to the industry, driven by his passion for witnessing transformation in people’s lives and supporting them on their recovery journey. Within our company, Tim wears many hats, overseeing aspects of compliance and maintenance, as well as conducting psychoeducational groups. His unique strength lies in sharing his own story with clients to remind them they are not alone on this path. Tim’s greatness is defined by his understanding, compassion, and unwavering dedication to tailoring care for each individual. He wants potential clients to know that every person who walks through our doors is deeply cared for. Tim’s ultimate goal is to ensure that each client leaves our program as a transformed individual, ready to embrace a brighter future.

Maureen (Mo) Michael, LPC

Executive Director

Meet Maureen “Mo” Michael, the Executive Director/Clinical Director here at Compass Recovery Center. With a Masters in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University and 16 years of experience in the industry, Mo is a Certified Trauma Therapist (CTT) with additional qualifications in Accelerated Resolution therapy (ART) and International Certified Gambling Counseling (ICGC-l). Mo’s passion for this line of work stems from her personal journey of recovery, which began in 2007. Having experienced the transformative power of treatment firsthand, she knew she had to help others in the same way. Mo’s specialty lies in trauma therapy and a servant leadership model, and she prides herself on being compassionate, patient, and an excellent listener. She always makes herself available to staff and clients, ensuring that everyone who walks through the center’s doors becomes a part of their caring and supportive family.

Dr. Steven Karp D.O.

Medical Director

Dr. Steven J. Karp is an nationally-respected eating disorder and addiction specialist, becoming one of the pre-eminent experts while Chief Medical Officer at the Rosewood Center and staff psychiatrist at the Meadows, two top-tier behavioral healthcare providers in Wickenburg, Arizona. Dr. Karp is triple Board certified in addiction, adult and geriatric psychiatry and brings over thirty years experience treating addiction and eating disorders. Dr. Karp was Medical Director for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He completed residency at Norristown State Hospital, Norristown, Pennsylvania. He also served as an associate clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Penn State School of Medicine. Dr Karp combines psychiatric training, empathic listening and motivational interviewing to support people towards lasting change.

With nine years of experience, Junior’s passion for this industry stems from his own recovery journey. His specialty lies in diverse counseling techniques, including Accelerated Resolution Therapy, CBT, DBT, REBT, and Motivational Interviewing. He believes in the power of perception to help clients break through life’s challenges and fosters self-understanding through philosophy, CBT skills, and spirituality. Junior excels in establishing strong rapport and trusting relationships with clients, aiding in their progress. His exceptional blend of experiences, education, and skills is dedicated to guiding individuals through substance abuse, trauma, and mental health challenges, promoting positive change.
