Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP Services Designed to Meet You Where You Are
At Compass Recovery Center, we understand that recovery looks different for everyone. That’s why we offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)—a flexible, supportive treatment option for people who are ready to return to daily life while still receiving regular help for addiction or mental health challenges. Whether you’re stepping down from inpatient care or starting treatment with some stability already in place, our IOP helps you stay on track with structure, therapy, and community—all while you live at home or in sober housing.
What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) gives you strong support without needing to stay overnight in a treatment center. It’s more structured than traditional therapy, but more flexible than residential treatment or a partial hospitalization program (PHP). You attend scheduled sessions throughout the week while continuing your regular routine. That might include working part-time, going to school, or caring for family.
IOP works well for people who
- Are finishing inpatient treatment or PHP and need continued care
- Need help managing substance use disorder or mental health conditions
- Want real support while getting back to daily life
- Motivated to recover but want a program that fits their schedule
This is not something to face alone. Drug abuse, especially long-term use, changes the body’s chemistry. Safe withdrawal requires medical knowledge, emotional support, and a plan.

What Our IOP Includes
At Compass Recovery Center, we tailor IOP to fit your unique needs. When you begin, our team creates a custom treatment plan that outlines your goals, challenges, and what kind of support you’ll receive. Our IOP Includes:
3–5 sessions per week, for a total of 9–15 hours
Individual therapy to focus on your personal needs & goals
Group therapy to learn, share, and grow with others
Optional family therapy to support healing at home
Help with job searches, life skills, and routine-building
Access to medication management, if needed
Support for both addiction and mental health conditions
If you're staying in one of our sober homes, we work closely with you to maintain stability and accountability there, too.
How IOP Helps You Heal
Our IOP combines the power of therapy, education, and community. We use tools backed by research, known as behavioral therapies, that help you build healthier habits and understand yourself better. Therapies We Use Include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Helps you notice and change negative thought patterns
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Teaches skills to handle emotions and stress
EMDR and ART
Support trauma healing using simple, guided techniques
Psychoeducation & Life Skills Classes
Teach you how addiction works—and how to move forward
Getting Back to Real Life With Support
One of the best parts of IOP is that you can start rebuilding your life while still receiving daily help. Many of our clients begin working part-time, reconnecting with loved ones, or going back to school—all while keeping recovery front and center. We support you by:
- Helping you create a routine
- Working with you on job readiness
- Supporting your time management, communication, and coping skills
- Encouraging healthy eating, rest, and personal care
- Providing optional sober living housing for stability
How Long Does IOP Last?
The length of stay depends on your needs. Most people stay in IOP for about 6 to 12 weeks. Some stay longer. Your care team will help decide what’s right for you, based on how you’re feeling, what you need, and how you're progressing. We check in regularly to adjust your treatment program as needed.
Is IOP Right for You?
Our intensive outpatient treatment is a great fit for people who are ready to live more independently but still want regular support. It’s ideal if you have a safe place to stay—like at home or in sober living—and want to stay focused on recovery while also working, going to school, or caring for your family. Many clients come to IOP after completing inpatient or PHP, and they appreciate having a flexible, supportive team that helps them stay on track.
